The Atkins Family started farming in the Adelaide Hills in 1939 when Hastings ‘Bill’ Atkins purchased Yarrawee (aboriginal for running water) at Meadows in the picturesque southern Adelaide Hills. Bill farmed the land until the age of 97 and ‘Atkins Farm’ as it is known today continues to be managed by Bills daughter Sue and grandson, Tim.

The potato picture is in honour of Bills earliest farming achievement in growing premium Potato’s for the local South Australian market. He was so good at it that the Atkins men now all carry the nickname and answer to Spud, a lifelong reminder of Bills early farming days.

Section 45 is just 10km due south from Atkins Farm and represents the family’s continuing passion for the region and especially the Australian Wine Industry, which included Bills wife Gwen’s father, who was one of South Australia’s earliest winemakers.

Section 45 is meticulously managed to produce outstanding fruit for our estate grown range of wines that carry the Section 45 name.
